The Massachusetts native scored a Top 40 hit with "I Couldn't Say No," his duet with Carlene Carter in 1983. He later moved to Nashville, where he wrote Number 1 hits for country acts like Shenandoah and Clay Walker while enjoying Top 40 success as a solo artist. Later Orrall focused on artist development, guiding the early careers of Taylor Swift, Be Your Own Pet, and many others.
