It is published weekly on Thursdays. The Avalanche serves the communities of Grayling, Frederic and Lovells, as well as the entire Crawford County area. Lake Margarethe, the AuSable River and Higgins Lake are also in its coverage area. Crawford County is the home of Camp Grayling, the largest military installation east of the Mississippi River, and the nation's largest National Guard training site. Training is conducted all year at Camp Grayling by the National Guard. as well as active and reserve components of the Army, Navy, Air Forece and Marine Corps. Grayling is the county seat of Crawford County.
