The Miracle Project 2013: Keep Asking
I like to start the beginning of every year re-focusing my life on what really matters. One of those areas is prayer. Prayer is something many of us know we need to do, but the day to day grind regularly presses this out of our lives. Yet, prayer opens our life to the divine unlike much else.
Lately I have been thinking upon the well known verses in Matthew 7:7:
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; know, and it will be opened to you.”
Matthew Henry writes about this verse. He says, “Pray; pray often; pray with sincerity and seriousness; pray, and pray again; make conscience of prayer, and be constant in it; make a business of prayer, and be earnest in it. Ask, as a beggar asks alms.”
Then he says something well worth contemplating:
Those that would be rich in grace, must betake themselves to the poor trade of begging, and the shall find it a thriving trade.”
I want to challenge you to become a beggar this year. Beggars are at their last effort of life. If they don’t get bread, they don’t live. Let’s re-claim a passion for prayer this year. Come to the gates of the great Giver of all grace and lay your burdens, petitions, cries, prayers, dreams, and desires before him with utter passion. And not just once. Regularly. Daily. Hourly. Moment by moment. Let’s become men and women of prayer this year.
Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep knocking.
Pray bold, persistent prayers with the desperation of starving child needing his daily bread. Because we are.
